Awareness

We think messlife should bear the principles of the French Revolution: Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. We believe that it is possible for freedom of expression to flourish without harmful behaviour that violates the boundaries of others.

Dialogue and argument are encouraged as long as they are done in a non-violent manner. Making derogatory comments on others based on race, creed, religion, appearance, disability, gender identity/expression or sexual orientation is not acceptable at our event. It should go without saying that neither is physical harassment (this includes touching someone without consent).

The responsibility to keep the camaraderie of the messfam lies with all of us, so stand up against violence or the threat of violence, verbal or physical harassment, sexist, homophobic, transphobic and racist comments.

In order to ensure the safety and happiness of the community we’ll appoint an Awareness Champion with an WhatsApp capable emergency phone number. This person will be responsible for deescalating situations that spin out of control. Should someone refuse to treat others with respect, our Awareness Champion will be able to have them removed from the event.

Warm hugs to the ECMC Bremen team for the inspiration they provided for these words.
